Hawaii Honored with TravelAge West WAVE Awards

– Destination with the Highest Client Satisfaction and Tourism Board Providing the Best Travel Agent Support –

HONOLULU

The Hawaiian Islands received top honors at the TravelAge West WAVE (Western Agents’ Votes of Excellence) Awards for “Destination with the Highest Client Satisfaction, USA” and “Tourism Board Providing the Best Travel Agent Support.” The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) accepted the awards on June 11 in Marina Del Rey, Calif.

Hawaii beat stiff competition from California, Florida, Las Vegas and New York City in the Highest Client Satisfaction category, and Travel Alberta, Tourism Ireland, Jamaica Tourist Board, and Mexico Tourism Board in the Best Travel Agent Support category.

“This recognition by the editors and readers of TravelAge West is a testament to the high quality of service that the HVCB and travel industry partners provide on a daily basis throughout the year,” said George Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority. “The Hawaiian Islands continue to deliver on its promise as a destination of remarkable experiences and beauty, and I’d like to thank our visitor industry for all of their hard work year after year.”

Other businesses with Hawaii ties were also honored, including:

  • Pleasant Holidays for “Tour Operator Providing the Best Travel Agent Support”
  • Pleasant Holidays for “Best Tour Operator, Hawaii”
  • The Fairmont Kea Lani (Maui) for “Best New Resort or Major Renovation, Hawaii”
  • Starwood Hotels and Resorts Hawaii for “Best Hotel Chain, Hawaii”

“The work our travel trade team has accomplished in the last 12 months continues to exceed expectations and reset the bar on delivering unparalleled service to our valued travel agent partners,” said John Monahan, HVCB president and CEO. “We’ve completely revamped our travel agent online resource center and Hawaii destination training program to ensure agents are equipped with the most compelling information about the islands to help their clients plan the most memorable vacations. We accept these accolades on behalf of our marketing partners and the entire hospitality industry in Hawaii whose support make it possible.”

Travel agent professionals throughout the 14 Western states and readers of TravelAge West were invited to vote on the best-of-the-best from a list of Editor’s Pick award recipients that were chosen after careful review by Editor-in-Chief Ken Shapiro and the editorial team of TravelAge West. Review methods included product analysis, on-site visits, a survey of a select group of travel agents and online research. Hawaii received three 2015 Editor’s Pick Awards in the categories of “Destination with the Highest Client Satisfaction, USA,” “Tourism Board Providing the Best Travel Agent Support,” and “Best Beach Destination for Romance Vacation.”

“This is the 10th annual WAVE awards, and it’s our biggest yet,” said Shapiro. “Our editors worked hard to include the top travel companies in our Editor’s Picks, and travel agents in the West made sure to acknowledge their favorite suppliers out of that list. These companies truly are the best of the best.”

The goal of TravelAge West’s WAVE Awards is to give travel agents in the Western U.S. the opportunity to recognize the outstanding qualities and services of their travel-supplier partners. The magazine’s special WAVE Awards Spotlight Issue is due out next month.
