WHERE: Kapiolani Park Bandstand (2.3-mile course)

This Saturday, an estimated 3,000 Hawaii residents will join the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for its largest event of the year in Hawaii, a 2.3-mile walk around Kapiolani Park titled, “Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes.”
The goal of the Walk is to raise more than $500,000, all of which will remain in Hawaii to help ADA fund diabetes education programs, advocacy, and research. Leading the Walk’s fundraising effort is Corporate Recruitment Chair Mark Dunkerley, president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, and Honorary Chair Mufi Hannemann, president of the Hawaii Hotel and Lodging Association.
Hawaiian Airlines will have a major presence at the Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes with a contingent of 700 participants, approximately one-fourth of the total number of walkers.
Following the Walk, participants will enjoy live entertainment, prize giveaways, and keiki games, and can also take part in free health screenings.
According to the ADA, more than 113,000 Hawaii residents, or 8.5% of the state’s population, suffer from diabetes, while an additional estimated 28,000 residents remain undiagnosed.
